Can’t tell if this weird body panel is better body-colored with the “vent” or in carbon fiber like this... What would you choose if it was yours?

As much as I like the side blade on the original Audi R8, I think in this case I’d leave it body-colored with the hole to nowhere, even though the additional cut-lines don’t help the car’s appearance at all.

Also, there’s a weird little notch up by the door handle - strange.

I really enjoy that color.

The base color is good, the mid-coat is SHIT, and the carbon fiber is utterly stupid.

Love the color but absolutely hate that carbon fiber tacked on.

Color good, carbon ugly.

It’s pretty good. I’m just now realized how huge the front and rear overhangs are on this car. Ugh. It’s really not a pretty car. Striking, definitely, and it will catch your eye on the road, but damn, is it a busy design...

This thing is 100% pure ricer at this point, and that’s clearly the target market. The idiots who put hot air intakes and a giant plastic wing on their base model automatic Civic and yammered about VTEC they didn’t have.

It cannot die fast enough.

It’s bad but I wonder what that part painted body color would look like. Maybe I’ll photoshop it later.

Edit: here’s some pics of some fake ass vents, from the Detroit auto show.

Counterpoint: it’s a sports car by a major manufacturer. I hope it sells incredibly well: so well that other makers are encouraged to build more sports cars. Also, I hope there’s enough vocal demand for the manual that they’re convinced to offer that in a few years. As a fan of sports cars and someone who always hope to have one in his garage, I like having choices.

Wait - a whole bunch of tacky body add ons, and no power bump is “ ricer ”?

Oh wait, yeah it totally is.

BTW - I saw the regular Supra in person (in red) for the first time yesterday. I felt it really looks better in person than in photos, because it’s a fairly small car. Proportions are very Z4 coupe like ( duh - but I’m referring to the old one here).

Less bad, for sure. Kind of crazy that they’re selling a “performance” part that just proves that that vent was all for show in the first place. I assume it’s more aerodynamic without that big hole.

Choices are good, but it is already not a sports car. It’s a grand tourer. The suspension is being softened up, it’s only ever going to be available with the automatic (rest assured, BMW will not let Toyota have a manual unless they’ve had their own for several years,) and it’s not even remotely competitively priced.

This thing is going to hit the market at more than $60k after dealer mark up. Way more. For something that is massively overweight and nothing but a naked nostalgia cash grab. And u nless you fork over for the ‘upgrade ’ the infotainment system would be embarrassing in a 5 year old Kia. It’s that bad.

Of course, a 1 inch by 10 inch plane sticking out from the body isn't going to help.

Let’s wait on the independent road & track tests before we call it a GT. The 4C is also auto-only (as are  the GT2/3 RS) and those are clearly sports cars. I agree that the Z4 is less of a “hardcore” sports car, but a Miata is definitely a sports car, and it’s definitely not hardcore.

No, the 4C is a true multiple dry -clutch with an automatic mode. Entirely different thing.

The Z upra is a pure automatic 8 speed with Tiptronic. No multiple clutches at all. Valve body and hydraulics.

And they are not and have never been sports cars. Goddamn do people need to stop this revisionist history bullshit with the Supra. ESPECIALLY Toyota themselves . From day fucking one the Supra was pitched as a grand tourer , period! And everybody recognized the ‘sports’ package was just badges. The “P-Type” didn’t get more power than the “L-Type,” it was a trim and appearance package. The A70 bragged about the variable damper rates to smooth the ride and the improved acoustic insulation. Only the A80 was ‘performance focused’ and still 4 speed automatic transmission by default (A340E.)

Like it or not, the Supra always was and always has been a grand tourer first and foremost.

Clearly there are different varieties. Can it shift itself? If yes, then it’s an automatic. The Z06 comes with an automatic, and it’s the faster version around a track. https://www.motortrend.com/cars/chevrolet/corvette/2015/2015-chevrolet-corvette-z06-first-test/

Just because the old Supra was a GT, doesn’t mean this one will be. I’ll wait for the road/track tests to decide.

Busy design? Yeah, some are worse than others.

Thankfully Mazda’s still carrying the torch for restrained elegance.

I think the holes to nowhere are stupid. I wonder what that piece would look like painted. I keep checking for a Supra configurator and not finding one.
